On Halloween eve, 1963, young Michael Meyers kills his sister brutally by stabbing her to death. Now, some 15 years latter, he escapes from a mental institution to terrorize his hometown on yet another Halloween night. From the unrelenting suspense, eerie music, stunning widescreen cinematography and an electrifying performance from the late Donald Pleasence, director John Carpenter has created one of the greatest horror films of all time.

HALLOWEEN is currently available on the DVD video format in three different versions. The first is what we call the STANDARD EDITION and was released in 1997 by ANCHOR BAY ENTERTAINMENT. This version is presented in both the full-screen and widescreen formats (the widescreen version is at the original aspect ratio of 2.35:1). The only extra on this release is the original theatrical trailer. Please note that the quality of this DVD video is very poor and we do NOT reccommend it.

The other two releases are also from ANCHOR BAY ENTERTAINMENT and came out late 1999. The first of the two we refer too as the THX REMASTERED DELUXE EDITION and the other is a limited editon 2 disc DVD set that is similiar yet offers even more.
The THX REMASTERED DELUXE EDITION is a beautiful print of the movie. The film has been remastered under the THX program which has resluted in an image quality that is so clean and sharp it boggles the mind. The soundtrack has been re-mixed into stereo and sounds great ... for the purist, the original mono soundtrack is also available as an option and it too sounds rather impressive. This DELUXE edtion includes the following extra materials:

A very fine release indeed! However, the limited edtion goes a step further ...

The limited edition (30,000 have been made and are selling FAST) includes all of this PLUS a second DVD that includes the extended television version featuring 12 additional minutes. This special television version is presented (for the first time ever) in the original widescreen aspect ratio of 2.35:1 which is really big news since the extra footage has never before been seen in this way! Last but not least, this limited edition has a cool holographic cover design.
